Universal Cylinder
Head Temperature Gauge
3 Meter Sensor
Cable (10mm Ring Terminal)
Why you need a CHT gauge?
If you drive an air
cooled or in fact any vehicle this CHT gauge will tell you a lot
about the state of tune of your engine. Air cooled vehicles especially with
stock fuel injection, have a tendency to run hot. Overheating an air cooled engine
will often result in damage to the cylinder head valve seats, the so-called
"dropped seat" syndrome. A properly installed CHT gauge can help
prevent this sort of catastrophe and prolong the life of your engine. |
What is a CHT Gauge?
A Cylinder Head Temperature gauge is the missing
gauge on any air-cooled vehicle. Most vehicles these days are water-cooled, and
every water-cooled vehicle has a vague temperature gauge on the dash which
shows the temperature of the engine coolant. You have a warning that the engine
may be overheating when your temp gauge heads towards the red but that's
all. With this CHT gauge you can accurately measure the temperature to the decimal point
up to 300c or 572 f so you know exactly what your temps are.
Since air-cooled vehicles like vintage VW's and
Porsche's etc do not have any coolant inside the engine, we measure the engine
heat by reading the temperature of the cylinder head in the spark plug area via
a sensor. This area of the head gets very hot and is an excellent indicator of
the operating parameters of the engine as a whole.
The CHT gauge kits consist of a sensor
and the gauge itself. The CHT sensor is attached to a ring terminal typically
placed under the spark plug or one bolt on the cylinder head.
Cylinder Head Temperature (CHT) Limits
For a longer engine life, the recommendation is
that a maximum 435 degrees F. should not be exceeded during high cruise
power. In my opinion, however, a somewhat lower 360-400 degrees F. CHT is more
reassuring for normal cruise conditions.
Specifications:
Celsius and Fahrenheit :
This temperature gauge measures in both Celsius and Fahrenheit
High alarm set point with buzzer and Output: If
the engine overheats (alarm set point), the Temp controller will start beeping
and also visual guide HHH on the controller screen intermittently to warn the
driver. You simply note the highest temperature your engine reaches during
normal driving, then set the audible alarm to go off at a few degrees higher.
The controller has low alarm set point too.
Washer type sensor:
The heat sensor simply fits like a washer under any suitable bolt that is close
to the cylinder head or engine block like under tappet cover bolt or
thermostat housing bolt or similar. 3 meter sensor with SS braided cover for
protecting wire for heating and also cut and abrasion.
Fast Response time:
The sensor detects changes so quickly, drivers can see their engine temperature
rise and fall degree by degree (with 0.1 degree resolution) as they drive in
varying traffic and road conditions.
Relay contact 10 Amp: The Controller has
relay output for connecting to your fan or coolant system or any other alarm
system.
The controller has
two type of timer for special actions.
Easy installation with
manual: The
main unit fits under the dash (Compact size - 75 (W) x 86 (H) x 35 (D) mm, plus
mounting tabs . The power just connect to 12V DC by wire.
Calibration: This
temperature gauge can be calibrated via the rear panel and is cold
junction compensated for high accuracy.
Large and clear LCD display
